HTML User Registries gives your Wildcat 5 BBS the ability to keep a database of user profiles. The program will ask each user a set of identical questions (17 questions in this release) such as name, age, hobbies and interests, etc. and save the user's answers to disk. This gives your users the ability to find out more about the people they talk and write to on your system. Additionally, when each user fills out a user registry using your ANSI terminal client, an HTML registry is also generated for that user as well as an HTML list of users who have filled out registries. When a user makes a change to an existing user registry, both the ANSI and HTML user registry files are immediately updated. HTML User Registries (C) 1996 Evolution Communications, Inc. B) DISTRIBUTION ================================================================== You may make the shareware version of HTML User Registries available for downloading from your BBS or you may upload it to any BBS of your choice, provided that you do not make any changes to the contents of the archive (UsrRg20u.ZIP). C) REGISTRATION ================================================================== Q. Why should I register? A. There are several reasons why you should consider registering your copy of HTML User Registries. The shareware version of User Registries is limited to 10 users. After the 10 user maximum is reached, your other users may still enter the program to view the registries of the first 10 users, however they may not create a registry of their own. The first 10 users, however, may still change or edit their user registry after the 10 user limit has been reached. The registered version is not limited to any number of users. The shareware version places an advertisement for Evolution Online (the support BBS for HTML User Registries) at the bottom of each HTML registry and the HTML user list. The registered version places only the version number and copyright notice at the bottom of each HTML registry and the HTML user list. The shareware version does not allow the sysop to edit other users' registries. The registered version allows the sysop to edit any users' registry. The shareware version displays a splash screen with a 7 second pause whenever a user exits the program. The registered version has no such splash screen. Last but not least, registration gives you that warm feeling you get when supporting the shareware concept. :) Q. What do I get when I register? A. You get your very own version of HTML User Registries v2.0 compiled specifically for your BBS, FREE updates to any bug fixes or feature improvements, and last but not least, registration gives you that warm feeling you get when supporting the shareware concept. ;) Q. How do I register and how much is it going to cost me? A. Registration of HTML User Registries is simple. Fill out the registration form included in this archive (register.txt), mail it along with a money order or cashiers check in the amount of $15.00 (US funds) made payable to: Michael Killewald c/o Sensational Software 29386 Palomino Warren, MI 48093 Once the check or money order has cleared, your registered version of HTML User Registries may be downloaded off of our support BBS (bbs.eol-online.com or (810)445-8146) or FTP site (ftp.eol-online.com) in the SENSATIONAL directory under the name and password you specify in the registration form. If you cannot access our BBS or FTP site, your registered copy can be sent to you via e-mail as a file attachment to the e-mail account of your choice (i.e. your account on MSI Software's BBS or any other internet reachable e-mail account). If you cannot receive e-mail with file attachments, then as a last resort your copy of HTML User Registries will be mailed out using the good old US Postal Service. However, you will need to pay for the cost to ship it to your desired location in advance. D) FEATURES ================================================================== Automatic generation of both ANSI and HTML user registries. Immediately updates both the ANSI and HTML user registry files when a user makes a change to its registry. Automatic generation of both ANSI and HTML listings of users who have filled out their user registry. Sysop editor available in registered version E) CONTENTS OF ARCHIVE ================================================================== The contents of the main archive (UsrRg20u.zip) are as follows: User Registries.wcx.......Main WC5 wcCode program executable User Registries.txt.......This doc file registry.cfg..............HTML User Registries config file graphics.zip..............Graphic files needed for HTML register.txt..............Registration Form file_id.diz...............Description of HTML User Registries The contents of the graphics archive (graphics.zip) are as follows: 120x1.gif.................White bar 120 pixels in length 160x1.gif.................White bar 160 pixels in length 200x1.gif.................White bar 200 pixels in length 320x1.gif.................White bar 320 pixels in length 400x1.gif.................White bar 400 pixels in length 600x1.gif.................White bar 600 pixels in length 80x1.gif..................White bar 80 pixels in length back.gif.................."Back" button logo.jpg..................HTML User Registries Logo If any of these files are missing, please contact Sensational Software immediately at kid.sensation@eol-online.com to report the missing files and to obtain the most current version. F) INSTALLATION AND OPERATION ================================================================== Installation of HTML User Registries is pretty simple. 1) Unzip this archive into the directory of your choice. 2) Move the User Registries.wcx and the registry.cfg files into your WC5 home directory (usually C:\WC5) 3) Create a directory for storage of the ANSI data files. Sensational Software recommends placing this directory in your WC5 home directory. The recommended directory to create is C:\WC5\REGISTRY (The name and placement of This directory may be changed by editing the HTML User Registries config file). 4) Create another directory for storage of the HTML data files. Sensational Software recommends placing this directory in C:\WC5\HTTP\PUBLIC directory. The recommended directory to create is C:\WC5\HTTP\PUBLIC\REGISTRY (The name and placement of this directory may be changed by editing the HTML User Registries config file). 5) Edit the HTML User Registries config file (registry.cfg - This file MUST reside in C:\WC5) included in this archive. Additional instructions are included inside the config file. However, the setup for the config file is as follows: C:\WC5\REGISTRY C:\WC5\HTTP\PUBLIC\REGISTRY ========================================================= Line 1: location of ANSI data files (no trailing slash!) Line 2: location of HTML data files (no trailing slash!) 7) Unzip the graphics.zip file contained in this archive into the directory you created for storage of HTML files. The recommended directory for HTML storage was C:\WC5\HTTP\PUBLIC\REGISTRY These graphic files are necessary because the Wildcat Navigator Browser does not handle tables the same way Netscape does. They are white bars that appear invisible with the white background of the generated HTML files to assure proper spacing of the table and its cells. 6) Open up wcMenu and add HTML User Registries to the menu of your choice. The recommended settings are as follows: Selection Key: UR Description: HTML User Registries 2.0 Command Type: Run wcCode Program Program: User Registries Parameters: (LEAVE THIS FIELD BLANK) Remember to give access to those access classes that you wish to have access to this program. 7) Add a HTML link to one of your existing HTML pages for the HTML user list file generated by this program. The HTML user list file will be titled USERLIST.HTM and will be placed inside the HTML data file storage directory created in step 5. If you used the default directories, the HTML tag to addt o one of your HTML pages (i.e. default.htm, etc.), is as follows: HTML User Registries That's it, setup of HTML User Registries is now complete. If you have any additional questions or comments, you may contact the author via e-mailat kid.sensation@eol-online.com Operation of HTML User Registries is quite straight forward. The menu options once the program has been entered do just what they say they do, as follows: Y - Used to create your registry if one does not exist, and after your registry exists, this option is used to edit your registry. L - Used to look up another user' registry. D - Used to obtain a listing of all the users who have filled out a user registry. Q - Used to quit and exit the program. S - Used to call up the sysop editor to edit a specific user's registry. (Must be using an account with the username of SYSOP, not just a user with sysop access) This option is available in the registered version only. G) CUSTOMIZING ================================================================== You may customize your HTML User Registries by replacing the following graphics files with images that better fit with your system: logo.jpg.........Main graphic displayed on top of HTML files back.gif.........Graphic image of "back" button These files must be located in your HTML data file storage directory.
